Outlaws Sequel, Apparently – WGB

I thought Star Wars: Outlaws was a decent game. Sure, it was nothing special, but I had a good time with it and reckoned a sequel would have a lot of potential. Well, it seems that potential will never be realised, as a reliable Ubisoft reports that the sequel has been canned.

Word comes via Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, a man with a deeply impressive track record when it comes to Ubisoft. Speaking on the latest episode of Insider Gaming’s podcast, the topic of Ubisoft inevitably came up, at which point Henderson revealed that the sequel has already been cancelled.

“But they also recently cancelled Star Wars: Outlaws 2 because that was planned and in the works,” said Henderson. “but it wasn’t that it didn’t enter production for as much as I know.”

When asked if that meant it was still in the pre-production phase, Henderson replied: ” Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was very, very, very early.”

The news is sad, but not shocking given how open Ubisoft has been about Outlaws failure. Just recently, Ubisoft CEO described the Star Wars brand itself as a major part of the low sales, describing Star Wars as being in “choppy waters”, which I would say is something of an understatement. The Star Wars name has been in sharp decline for years, despite some flashes of brilliance like Andor and the Star Wars Jedi games.

Star Wars: Outlaws sold a million copies in its first month, and since then Ubisoft has not reported any sales data or player numbers. The only thing the company has said is that the game did not reach its 5.5 million copies sales target in March of 2025.

Ubisoft, of course, is in a bit of trouble right now, even going so far as to create a new subsidiary that will handle all of its major gaming IP. It also officially acknowledged the existence of a new Ghost Recon game that’s in the works.

It’s worth noting that Ubisoft has continued to update Star Wars: Outlaws, and I’ve heard from a lot of people that it’s actually in much better shape these days.
